As many of you may know, Julie Frederickson is the visionary mind behind the blog Coutorture. In recent months, however, her blog and her staff of contributing writers have become anything but visionary. She is now helplessly trying her hand as an editor - somehow thinking that paying $400 to produce a shoot allows her to make this claim. (omg! a whole $400!)
A while back, Julie explained that "Mid to low 5 figure women with college degrees who want to aspire to more glamorous lives but without a great degree of savvy is the entire userbase of our corporate parent. It is not however ours."
This "skinny girls only" idea of exclusivity as a market is the basis of couture - and logically, "coutorture". Unfortunately for her, this market doesn't live online. Coutorture's numbers only prove that (1) the size of her market is limited or that (2) she's doing a terrible job at reaching them. Sorry, Jules - but the market you're after doesn't live online waiting with baited breath for your "editorials".
Julie, you said it yourself - "You have to be harsh to succeed, particularly as a woman. I will not silence myself for your ego. I will be truthful to you because I respect you."
So take this post as a gentle sign of respect. This isn't even that harsh. The best has yet to come ; )
